KISSES, JERSEY SHORE AND SOUL WINNING

Me and Nancy At Chocolate World

HERSHEY, PA                                                 Nancy and I had a couple of days between meetings in the North East.  We ended up spending those days in Hershey where many of the Hershey chocolates are made.  We especially enjoyed the KISSES.

JERSEY SHORE FROM OUR BEACH HOUSE WINDOW

Beech House View

From Hershey we went on to our meeting in Howell, NJ for a time of teaching and preaching on Soul Winning for the Go weekend at Open Door Bible Baptist Church.  While there we stayed in a beach house provided by “Rev” over looking the beautiful Atlantic ocean on the Jeresy Shore.

GO WEEKEND A GREAT SUCCES

Bro. Chris and Family

Pastor Chris Teis did a wonderful job of organizing the meeting.  Nancy had a teaching session with the ladies and I had the opportunity to speak six (6) times teaching and preaching about Soul Winning.

Over 100 folks from 5 churches were present.  The altars were full at every invitation with folks committing themselves to win souls.  In addition God gave us 3 coming for slavation on Sunday and one coming for membership.

LOOKING AHEAD

I have the privilege of preaching the 10th Anniversary services this Sunday at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Taylorsville, KY.  We started this mission church about 12 years ago and 10 years ago this coming Sunday I preached the charter service and watched as they called the man, Bro. Patrick Nix, who had been pastor of the mission to be pastor of the church. I’ll bring a full report next week.

Later this week I will be posting another in the series of lists about Sunday School and then I plan to give some proven methods that will help churches see more people saved and Baptized.  Of course we all understand that without the Holy Spirit’s presence and power no one will be saved.  We are not the saviors.  We are simply the available tools that God will use if we will make ourselves available.

For Christ and for Souls,

Lonnie Mattingly – John 15:8

SPRING BIBLE CONFERENCE – DOVER, PA

Dr. Sterling Walsh and Dr. Janet Walsh Wonderful Hosts

What an amazing time we have had in Dover, PA at the Lighthouse Baptist Church

Sterling and Janet Walsh

pastored by Dr. Sterling Walsh. We had the privilege to preach and speak for 4 days. Drs. Sterling and Janet Walsh were a tremendous blessing.  They were great hosts.

We enjoyed wonderful meals, powerful services and sweet fellowship.  It was delightful to meet several new pastors from the area at the preachers’ fellowship on Tuesday morning.  The music was uplifting and encouraging.  The preaching was Biblical and highly motivating.  The altars were full at each service.  Salvation was recorded.  Scores of decisions were made to reach out to the lost.  The Lord spoke to my heart.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE MINISTRY OF LIGHTHOUSE BAPTIST CHURCH      The high standards and the godly, joy filled, conservative music along with the powerful preaching and teaching of Dr. Sterling Walsh will bless your life.

DR. AND MRS TIM RABON  WERE GREATLY USED

Tim & Sharon Rabon

We had a great time of fellowship also with Dr. Tim Rabon and Mrs Sharon Rabon.  They  joined us at the Bible Conference Monday and Tuesday.  Bro. Tim brought three great messages and Mrs. Sharon spoke along with Nancy at the Tuesday morning ladies meeting hosted by Mrs. Janet Walsh.

Dr. Rabon is the pastor of Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina They have a powerful growing ministry reaching a wide area.  The Rabons are dear friends.  We always enjoy the fellowship and their friendship.

Nancy and I are looking forward to this coming weekend and a Soul Winning training meeting with Pastor Chris Teis and the great folks at Open Door Bible Baptist Church in Howell, NJ.  We start at 10 AM on Saturday morning  (May 10th).  Pastor Teis has invited anone interested to join us. GROW THAT ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

Last week I had the opportunity to post some of the procedures and practices I used in building the Adult Sunday School at Shawnee Baptist Church while pastor there. I titled it: How To Start An Adult Sunday School Class.

Obviously getting started is just the beginning. Many people are good starters but they are not maintainers or finishers. We will never build strong Sunday Schools without leaders that faithfully practice a few basic things, even after the new wears off.

This week I am enjoying being part of the Spring Bible Conference in Dover, PA. where Dr. Sterling Walsh is the pastor at Lighthouse Baptist Church and they are seeing some amazing growth filling all their Sunday School space. It is a joy to also have speaking Dr. Tim Rabon. Tue. AM they will host a preachers meeting at 10 AM. Mrs. Janet Walsh will also host a ladies meeting at 10AM where Mrs. Nancy Mattingly and Mrs. Sharon Rabon will speak to the ladies.

This coming Sat and Sun Nancy and I will be with Pastor Chris Teis at the Open Door Bible Baptist Church of Howell, NJ. having a Soul Winning training weekend.

I will post some reports on these meetings next week. For now I do ask you to pray for God’s presence and power.

Here is the outline of ideas for growing an Adult Sunday School Class once it is started.  Use the ideas.  Fill those classrooms.  Get the Word of God into as many lives as you can.  In a week or so I will post some additional Sunday School material that I have used to help Sunday School teachers reach more of their potential.

HOW TO GROW AN ADULT CLASS ONCE STARTED
Pastor Lonnie Mattingly

1. Scan the crowd 3 times a week looking for prospects (meet every visitor)

2. Visit faithfully (visit every absentee the first time they are absent)

3. Enroll new people every week

4. Have a goal of at least one lost person in attendance each week

5. Network with existing soul winning programs and outreach people to find more new prospects

6. Keep excellent records

7. Copy your roll book and prospect list as your Sunday School prayer list.

8. Promote the Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening services
goal: to build your members

9. Build loyalty to the pastor and church in the hearts and minds of your members

10. Set the right example in personal standards and faithfulness

11. Plan some activities (one major activity per quarter and minor monthly)
By planning around church services and campaigns you help tie your people to the
overall program of the church and build unity

12. Activities can be fun, convenient and inexpensive:
Sun PM pie & ice cream
Sun afternoon picnic – and games
Sundae Sunday night
Video presentation (approved of course)
Work party (paint your class, work on grounds, adopt a flower bed, etc)
Nursing home outing or sponsorship
Use your imagination … there are hundreds of ideas that will build your class without breaking the bank

13. Establish a class Soul Winning time…

14. Have a goal of winning Soul Winners – 2 Tim 2:2
